Arthur J.L. Salvas
Scarborough, ON
Through labyrinths of avenues
Some rush like maze-trained rats,
Sniffing out a route to choose
For cheese with caveats.
The swiftest may elude the cat
But not a sprung trap’s squeeze:
It is the second fastest rat
That gets to eat the cheese.
The fittest pair of hardy rats
Will fight ’til one prevails,
While some avoiding needless spats
Have dallied with the females.
If you are one who sets the pace
And earns plaudits and congrats,
Even though you win the rat race –
You’re still one of the rats!
