Any fully paid member of Mensa (from any country) and their guests can attend the Mensa Canada Annual Gathering (AG).

The Mensa Canada AG 2024 themed will take place from 5pm Friday June 21 to 4pm Sunday June 23, 2024.

The Mensa Canada AG 2024 is being held at the Casablanca Hotel in Grimsby, ON about halfway between Hamilton and Niagara Falls. Nestled in the picturesque town of Grimsby, this charming Boutique Inn features views of the Niagara Escarpment, is steps from the sparkling shores of Lake Ontario, and has 40 luxuriously appointed guest rooms available to us.

Their address is 4 Windward Dr, Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8 and telephone is 1 (905) 309-7171. For details about how to get there, please visit our AG website.

See the Travel Info page for really good instructions and maps. The easiest public transportation from the Toronto airport is taking the airport UP train to union station, and then the Niagara train to Grimsby. This will take approximately 2 hours.

In June, you can expect highs of 24°C / 75°F during the day and lows of 14°C / 57°F at night.

Light and casual clothing should suffice. Bring a sweater or light jacket for the evenings, or just in case our “perfect” weather decides NOT to be! Please understand that we must keep the classrooms cool in order to accommodate all attendees. If you tend to get chilly, please bring a sweater to the meeting rooms as we will not ask the hotel to raise or lower the temperature. Bring ID and wear comfortable shoes, especially if you’re going outside to walk by the lake.

A few members will dress up in costumes to participate in our “Dress as a Movie Star” contest being held after the Saturday night banquet.

For everyone else, dress at the banquet is from casual to semi-formal (no ripped jeans or sweatpants please).

There’s an on-site spa, a fitness center and an indoor pool so if you want to enjoy these facilities, pack accordingly.

Our theme is “Magic in Movies”, and in deference to our venue we will be screening the movie Casablanca on Saturday night. Plus, we will have a costume contest with prizes after the Gala dinner on Saturday night. Come as your favorite movie character – “Here’s looking at you kid”. As usual there will be games, speakers, eating, drinking and lots of time for socializing.

Keep watching the website for updates on speakers, activities and announcements.

The Casablanca is permitting us to have a hospitality suite, a rare concession these days! Hospitality will be stocked with chips, candy, juice and soda. There’s a Tim Horton’s Tim Horton’s, a Swiss Chalet and 3 other restaurants directly across the street, so people on a budget can eat without having to pay hotel prices. Aside from all of the entertainment, your event ticket includes a Friday night Cocktail Reception with hot hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, Sat & Sun continental breakfasts

and Sat & Sun fabulous lunches. All breakfasts and lunches include tea and coffee. The Gala 3 course plated chicken dinner is to be held in the Grand Ballroom. There will be vegetarian and gluten free options and a cash bar. It is optional and costs an additional fee of $50.

Pricing depends upon when you register, your age and whether or not you want to include the Saturday night gala supper for $50.00. There is no tax to be added to your AG ticket.

Finding help at the AG

If you have any questions or concerns, the AG volunteers can be identified by the distinctive Humphrey Bogart fedora hats they will be wearing.

If you have any issues concerning the Casablanca, or are having an emergency situation, please find a committee member with a fedora.
